Robert Rykovich, Owner & Head Coach

CrossFit Level 2 Trainer
B.S. Exercise Science, Indiana University
Partner & P.E. Teacher, Indi-ED School
Robert earned a degree in Exercise Science from Indiana University and spent his childhood and adolescence engaged in athletic activities, including football, basketball, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and Olympic lifting. He has always been enthused about working out, but it wasn’t until his brother Scott introduced him to CrossFit in 2008 that his passion for exercise and a healthy lifestyle was ignited. The results, fulfillment, and camaraderie that CrossFit offers inspired Robert to open his own box, CrossFit Blackbeard, in 2012. Even before earning his CrossFit Level 1 certification, Robert spent much time developing plans for his own gym in anticipation of sharing his passion with others. He moved to St. Petersburg from Indiana in 2012 with his wife Jen. He still competes with his little brother, Scott.

Rob C.

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
Tampa Bay Brigade Florida Grid League Team, Owner/Founder
P.E. Teacher
USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach
After leaving in June of 2015 for a year of international travel, where I was fortunate enough to "box-hop" in over 15 countries and spend 6 months coaching at the newest box in Bali, Indonesia at Crossfit Wanderlust, I'm back where I started coaching CrossFit... CrossFit BLACKBEARD! I'm excited to be back in St Pete and hoping to bring even more knowledge and energy to the gym. Through my recent experiences, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of top level coaches and Games athletes from all over the world!
I was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 where I was quickly addicted to the intense style of training and the supportive community of people. I earned my Level 1 CrossFit trainer certification in January of 2013 and soon after started coaching evening classes at Blackbeard. I previously had a personal training background that includes a Certified Fitness Trainer certification from ISSA as well as a youth strength training cert from DSW Fitness. My coaching experience also includes my most recent 3 year career as a Physical Education Teacher at a local elementary school.
In addition to being a fitness junkie, I'm an avid traveler and a PADI certified rescue diver. If I'm not at the gym or planning my next international adventure, I'm likely hanging with family or friends at one of the many local eateries and breweries in downtown St Pete, or I'm relaxing at home with my two pups that I rescued while living in Asia.
I believe in living simply and training hard. Fitness should not only be functional in practice and execution, but also in supporting a sustainable, healthy, and happy lifestyle.

danielleDanielle C.

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
Danielle is addicted to anything and everything fitness-related. Any spare moment she has is spent at the gym, in the Blackbeard box, or talking about CrossFit. You will often see her doing sled pulls in the parking lot. She dropped in for “Bring a Friend Day” several years ago and was hooked ever since. She enjoys outdoor physical activities such as mud runs ( Tough Mudder, Spartan, and Savage), paddle boarding, obstacle courses, and bike riding. But even more so, she enjoys motivating others to continue on their fitness path to reach their goals. Danielle knows the time and dedication it takes and wants to help others stay focused and positive. She plans to expand her fitness/CrossFit knowledge and go for her Level 2. Favorite quote: “Surround yourself with those who CHALLENGE you, PUSH you, MOTIVATE you. Those who keep your FIRE LIT.”
